What a wild ride this story turned out to be! Every chapter brought a surprise, and I simply had to turn the pages to learn where it was all leading. The plot twist at the end was mind-blowing but so fitting for the atmosphere of mystery and adventure.
“India Dymond” by K.D. McNiven took me first to Cairo and then to the Himalayan Mountains. I haven’t been to either place, but, of course, I’ve seen and read a lot about them. The author captures the bustling vibe of Cairo perfectly. That is exactly how I imagined the capital of Egypt. The dangers hiding high up in the Himalayas are also described in a way that I felt transported to the formidable, snow-covered slopes. The exotic locations added an edge of excitement to the fast-paced narrative.
India is a young woman leading an adventurous life. She tries activities that satisfy her adventurous nature. Her parents had shown her how exciting life can be if one pursues their true passion instead of settling for the ordinary. Coupled with her own natural inclinations, even after her mother and father pass away – too early – India embarks on a journey of finding her place in the world. Leaving for the USA, she has no idea that one day, all the skills she is about to learn will prove crucial to her survival.
India returns to Egypt upon receiving sad news. Her uncle, the man who took her in after her parents perished in a plane crash, died. She enters the attorney’s office to learn the details of her uncle’s will, but leaves with a letter from him that will turn her already not exactly tamed or regular life upside down.
I enjoyed the colourful personalities of the people surrounding India and how they turned out to be not the way they appeared at first glance. Her timid cousin Darius discovering the talents and interests which had been dormant due to other pressing demands of life. The archaeologist Wade of a certain renown in his field presenting an enigma neither India nor we readers can solve until the very last pages of the book. Wade’s team on the dig in the wilderness of Egyptian sands. Even the villains, their actions despicable but their motivations still crystal clear.
I hope that the author plans to continue sharing India Dymond’s story. She is the kind of heroine for whom the wildest adventure is only the beginning.
