My son loves reading, and he especially adores fairytales. Even though he is already at the age when he doesn’t need his parents to read to him before sleep, I knew that he’d enjoy a collection of bedtime stories that he could read himself. “Fairytales Live Here” by Ellen Khodakivska proved to be a perfect choice. I’ve read the books for adults by this author, and I knew that anything she has written for children would be filled with kindness and wisdom, with every page sprinkled with a sense of wonder.
My son said he loved all the stories in this collection but that his favourite is “How Kitten and Puppy Planted Flowers.” He explained that he liked it most because it teaches that life is much better when you have friends. With friends, you can accomplish more, and it’s more interesting and fun to do things together rather than by yourself. He also said that the cat Moss from this story reminded him of our cat Peach. Peach is also a little grumpy and appears not to wish to have company, while, in reality, he cares about his sister Honey and also loves us, his human servants.
My son noted that every story teaches a valuable lesson and that he could remember situations in his life when he learned that these lessons were true. He said it is important that children are reminded that we should help others, respect other people’s talents, and be open to learning new things. According to my son, books, and especially fairytales, are the best way to teach kids these important things.
If you are looking for bedtime reading that will fill your children’s dreams with warmth, kindness, and beauty, look no further. “Fairytales Live Here” by Ellen Khodakivska is a book that will become your kids’ favourite read.
