Category Winner in the 2025 Independent Author Awards

“The Accidental Cop” is a Category Winner in the 2025 Independent Author Awards.

It feels especially gratifying that my cross-genre crime noir novel, with the setting unknown to most readers, has finally found its niche, winning in the “Social / Political Change” category in the 2025 Independent Author Awards.

“The Accidental Cop” already won several awards, but due to its mixed genre, I imagine, it was quite challenging to evaluate. Not a real crime fiction novel, not a detective story, police procedural, mystery, or thriller, it falls somewhere outside all classified genres. Besides, it is not set in any of the places famous for their rich criminal scene and highly professional investigators, like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London, etc. Its setting isn’t even in some remote, quaint place on the shores of the English Channel or in a sleepy “ghost” place which used to be a bustling town at the time of the “wild west.” The story in this book takes place in Riga, Latvia, during a period branded “the savage 90s” by pop culture all across the former Soviet republics.

I am grateful for the literary recognition “The Accidental Cop” has received. And I’ll cherish the words of the Independent Author Awards committee: “Your work stood out among a wide field of talented storytellers and has been recognised for its exceptional creativity, originality, and contribution to independent literature.”
