Time to pick your next favourite fantasy book series

“Dyrwolf” by Kat Kinney

Lea Wylder is a fighter. She’s been fighting all her life. She’s been fighting against the enemy, the biggest threat to her people. She’s been fighting against the grief of losing her loved ones. And if that wasn’t enough, there is a continuous battle with her own mind and body, both seemingly trying to betray her from within.

Lea’s life isn’t easy. Still, she knows who the enemy is and knows how to fight against it. That is until she meets one of them. She is supposed to kill him on the spot. But she can’t kill Henrik. Not after he shifts from the white wolf who’s been chasing her in her dreams to a human boy with this stupid barley-stalk hair and a sack full of herbs rather than weapons.

I absolutely loved the immersive writing style I already fell in love with when reading Kat Kinney’s Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series. In “Dyrwolf”, the language is even richer, with descriptions pulling you into the story.

“Skinny, stiped aspen trunks fly by, pale and bare as rib bones, their leaves fluttering in a dazzling display of corn-stalk gold and ember orange.”

“Redemption” by Ivy Logan

“Just because a belief is held by many doesn’t make it right”

Just because almost everyone in the magical realm of Htrae believes that Siobhan, the ruler of the Heichi sorceress clan, is almighty, does it make her such? She certainly believes there is no one above her, and this belief gradually strips her of any human feelings she might have had.

“Redemption”, the finale of The Breach Chronicles by Ivy Logan, is an intricately woven story with all the right ingredients to keep the reader hooked. Magical creatures with powers above human possibilities, intrigues, and conspiracies involving both supernatural and human, and a brooding quest between good and evil that will change the history of both worlds. And on top of all that, there is young love, with jealousy and self-doubt, bitter disappointments and uplifting discoveries.

“Follow the Hummingbird” by Elena Carter

Have you ever wondered if there is more to our dreams?

Tina has always had vivid dreams. But now she feels that something about them has changed. Not only does she remember every detail of what happened to her in a dream when she wakes up. She finds “gifts” she has brought with her from the travels in her sleep.

“Follow the Hummingbird” by Elena Carter is a story of a young woman who, while trying to cope with her grief, discovers that the recipe that works best is equally liberating and dangerous.

“The Younglings” by Helena M. Craggs

The first thing that came into my mind when I sat down to write a review of the first book of this series was: what a cosy book! Well, yes, I know it would sound strange if you read the description of “The Younglings: Shadows and Magic” by Helena M. Craggs, since it says: demons, vampires, and also mentions something about stabbing the supernatural creatures. But that’s how I felt the whole time I was reading it. I felt like I was being enveloped in a warm, familiar blanket that smelled of home-made cookies.

In the third instalment of The Younglings series, stakes get higher and dangerous situations multiply. The team of supernaturals does their best to make the world a safer place for everyone, humans and magical creatures alike. But life throws new blows and challenges their way as if testing their endurance.

The Younglings series is an action-packed, fast-paced read that won’t let you breathe out until you turn the last page. And even then, you’ll be left craving for more.
